Our Story

The two of us met while working out at NIH in the DC area. There was a Halloween party with mustaches, wigs, zambonis, optical illusions, and totally going yo. In order to win Katherine over, Ricardo smartly used the cunning use of his limbs and Mateo, Ricardo’s cute nephew. Sucker! Katherine did not play fair either, and she won Ricardo over by making the one thing all old men cannot resist: soup. Once things started falling into place, we began dating and really enjoyed our time spent in DC.

The past three and a half years have brought our relationship lots of traveling and Skype dates. After surviving a period of long-distance between Madison, Baltimore, Ethiopia and Peru, we’re finally living in the same place again, enjoying the pleasant Wisconsin climate.

The Proposal

Two days before 2013 started, while visiting Ricardo’s family in Chile, the two of us went camping at Valle del Elqui, where pisco is made in Chile. There Ricardo (ridiculously nervous) strongly suggested the two go for a hike straight up the mountain to overlook the small town of Cochiguaz. Once at the top, Ricardo handed Katherine a small box, only to contain some earrings his mom had given him to fake her out :). Then Ricardo actually said some nice things with emotions and feelings that confused Katherine further. At the end of his speech, Ricardo handed Katherine the real ring and asked her to marry him, at which point she said yes! 😀
